How complex is it to build a photographic camera? (and how cheap can it be?)
There is something called "pinhole camera" that works on a simple principle,
explained here. This kind of camera is so simple, it doesn't need a lens and it can be built from a paper box!
To understand how easy the concept really is, try this page, where the construction
of a similar camera is detailed for kids.
There seems to be a lot of people actually using these cameras to take nice
pictures, with regular films:
- a Kodak pinhole camera
- Bob Miller's page
- make your own pinhole camera (whit details about focal distances and hole diameter)
- make your own oatmeal box camera ;)
- or from a coffee can
- there is also a nice webring dedicated to the subject
- and more advanced projects are discussed here
- finally, for some bibliography about pinhole cameras, see here.
