Great idea and terrific machine. Now... instead of "looking" at the outside of the original LEGO cube, why not use a robot arm like in this machine (http://www.battlebricks.com/makerlegobot/), to actually:
a. dismantle the original cube, 1 layer at the time,
b. memorize each piece and where it was
c. store the complete model of the original cube
Later it would be possible to re-print the entire cube in as many copies as needed, AND in the process a complete map of the original cube would be made... and the process would scale easily to larger and more complex Lego objects, including some with internal structure.
That would be a LEGO teleporter! ... and I would very much get one :D
