Great story, not-so-good movie

Mimsy Were the Borogoves is a nice SCI-FI story from 1943. I read it in Italian some years ago, and here it is in original.

''Mimsy Were the Borogoves is a science fiction short story by Lewis Padgett (a pseudonym of Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore) that was originally published in the February 1943 issue of Astounding Science Fiction Magazine.[1] It was judged by the Science Fiction Writers of America to be among the best science fiction stories written prior to 1965 and included in the anthology The Science Fiction Hall of Fame Volume One, 1929-1964. '' [source]

Recently there has been a movie based on the story. Personally I find the movie good for the most part, and kind of close to the original idea. However the final 25 minutes or so are very disappointing and the ending is really low-quality, already-seen-a-million-times quality :(

Too bad, another lost opportunity.
Perhaps a (short) cartoon version would do the trick(?): see this one for example.

[story, movie].
